Fire Pumps

Every summer the same conversation happens across the country: the fire plan is sorted, the gutters are clear, and then someone asks how the water is actually getting onto the roof. Mains pressure will not do it, and a garden hose will not reach. A fire pump is the bit that turns a full tank into actual defence. The pumps here are self-priming engine driven units built for the job — drop the suction hose into a tank, dam or even the pool, pull it over, and you have several hundred litres a minute at enough pressure to wet down a roofline, a fence or a woodpile from a safe distance. They earn their keep out of season too, shifting water between tanks, filling troughs and doing high pressure wash down work.

Choosing between them mostly comes down to volume and fuel. The Honda powered petrol models are light enough for one person to carry to the water and start on a recoil, which suits a house block or a small holding. The diesel is the one for properties where this has to work for hours rather than minutes — better fuel economy under load, a longer engine life, and diesel stores in the drum far better than petrol, which matters for a machine that might sit untouched for two seasons.
