You can connect Renogy camping solar blankets with other brands, but matching specifications works best. Similar voltage and wattage panels parallel together more efficiently. Different brands with wildly different specs can fight each other. If you've got existing solar and want to add Renogy solar panels online, try matching wattage ratings closely. Your regulator also needs capacity for the combined amperage.
Most Renogy solar panels for sale are 12V nominal (around 18-22V open circuit), perfect for 12V battery systems. For 24V systems, connect two identical Renogy solar blankets in series – positive of one to negative of the other. This doubles the voltage to suit 24V batteries. Make sure your regulator handles 24V input.
Alternatively, some larger Renogy camping solar panels come in 24V versions specifically designed for higher voltage systems.
Cable thickness depends on amperage and distance. A 200W Renogy solar blanket produces roughly 11A at 12V, needing 4-6mm² cable for runs under 5 metres. Longer distances or multiple Renogy camping solar panels need thicker cables to prevent voltage drop and heat buildup. Most of our Renogy solar blankets for sale include appropriate cables for direct connection.
Extending cables? Use proper solar-rated cable and calculate voltage drop, or give us a call for sizing help.
Our Renogy solar blankets online range isn't designed for permanent mounting – they're meant to be portable and stored when not in use. The flexible materials won't handle constant UV exposure and weather like rigid panels.
For permanent roof mounting, grab proper rigid Renogy camping solar panels instead. They've got sealed junction boxes and frames built for long-term outdoor exposure. Use blankets for their intended purpose: portable, temporary solar generation you pack away between uses.
Renogy solar blankets use marine-grade materials that resist salt corrosion better than budget options, but they're not completely salt-proof. If you're coastal camping or boating, rinse your Renogy solar blanket with fresh water after exposure to salt spray. The junction boxes and connections can corrode over time in salty conditions. Store them dry between trips.
Overloading your regulator is asking for trouble! If your combined Renogy camping solar panels produce more amperage than your regulator handles, it'll overheat and potentially fail.
A 200W panel produces roughly 11A, so three panels need a regulator rated for 35A+ with a safety margin. Always check your regulator's maximum input before adding more Renogy solar blankets. Upgrading to a higher-capacity MPPT regulator lets you expand your solar array safely.
