Big Battery Power In A Small Package - The Custom Lithium 400Ah NextGen Ultra Slim Packs A Punch Running out of space but still need serious juice?...
View full detailsA 400Ah lithium battery is for the rig that runs like a small house: air con, induction cooking, a big inverter, or a week parked up without a drive to top it up. The packs here are LiFePO4, in 12V and 24V, with a few 460Ah options for even more headroom.
Read moreAt 12V, a 400Ah LiFePO4 pack holds about 5120Wh, roughly double a 200Ah. That's the difference between managing your power and simply using it. If your setup is a fridge, lights and the odd charge, 200Ah lithium batteries are the lighter, cheaper step, and 300Ah lithium batteries sit in between for a few days off-grid with occasional inverter use. For narrow bays, also look at slimline lithium batteries, and the wider touring range is in lithium batteries for camping.
We stock 400Ah lithium batteries from brands trusted on Aussie caravans and off-grid builds:
This is a two-person lift. The packs here sit between about 35kg and 60kg. Custom Lithium's 400Ah caravan case is the compact one at 400 x 235 x 260mm and 35kg, while the Enerdrive slimline is around 60kg. Whatever you choose, the floor or frame needs to carry it properly, especially in a canopy on corrugations.
A tall, narrow space suits an ultra slim case like Custom Lithium's NextGen, which is 116mm wide across the body. A conventional under-seat box suits the caravan or BluEdge style. Measure length, width and height before you fall for a capacity.
Match the inverter to the battery's continuous rating, not the amp-hours. Custom Lithium packs here are rated at 380A and the Amptron BluEdge at 300A. On the charging side, a 400Ah lithium battery wants a decent solar array and a DC-DC or AC charger with a lithium profile and enough current to make a dent in it.

For a fridge, lights and phone charging, usually yes. It earns its place when you run 240V gear through an inverter, like air con, an induction cooktop or a coffee machine, or when you stay put for days without driving. If that's not you, a 200Ah lithium battery saves weight, space and money.
One 400Ah pack keeps things simple: one BMS, one set of terminals and less cabling to get right. Two 200Ah batteries split the weight into easier lifts and can fit two smaller spaces, but they should be identical models wired in parallel with matched cable lengths. If you have one decent-sized bay, a single pack is usually the cleaner install.
As a rough guide, divide the amp-hours you need to replace by the charge current. Topping up 200Ah from a 40A DC-DC charger takes around five hours of driving. Bigger chargers close the gap faster: Custom Lithium recommends a 130A charge on its 400Ah and 460Ah packs, and Enerdrive suggests 60A to 120A on the B-Tec slimline. Most owners pair one of these with a solid solar array.
It depends on the rest of the system. At 24V the current is halved for the same load, so a 3000W inverter draws roughly 125A instead of about 250A at 12V, which means thinner cable and less heat. But a 24V battery won't run 12V gear without a converter. Stick with 12V for a typical caravan or 4WD, and consider 24V for a new build, truck or off-grid shed. See our full range of 24V lithium batteries.
They're the next step up for the same kind of setup. Custom Lithium's NextGen ultra slim comes in 400Ah and 460Ah in the same 610 x 405 x 116mm body, so you can add capacity without needing a bigger space. In the caravan case, the 460Ah grows to 456mm long and 43kg, against 400mm and 35kg for the 400Ah.
