7 kVA Gentech Honda Welder Generator – Reliable Power When You Need It! When a job needs welding and there’s no power in sight, most blokes either ...
View full detailsNeed a genny that can run the tools, back up a shed, or carry a welder in the same frame? A 7kVA generator is site-sized power you can still move with a plan.
Read MoreIt's the size for a small job, a pump, or a repair away from mains power. A whole house, or two air conditioners plus a loaded van, is asking more than this bracket wants to give.
7kVA generators put out around 5.6kW of continuous power (7000VA at a 0.8 power factor). That is enough to run more gear, and work it harder, than a small camping set.
Here's the kind of load a 7kVA generator takes:
If a 6kVA generator is close but you also want to weld, this is the range with welder sets in it. For two air conditioners or a big rig, step up to 8kVA generators or 10kVA generators.
7kVA generators suit anyone whose job has outgrown a light camping set. You'll get the most out of one if you're:
Not every genny in this bracket is built the same. Before you buy a 7kVA generator online, sort these out:
More inverters are in portable inverter generators, and the wider diesel range is in diesel generators.
7kVA generators suit a site, a shed or a weld. A simple camp can stay smaller and lighter on a 2kVA generator or 4kVA generator. If the load is two air conditioners, a big rig, or a workshop full of motors, look at 8kVA generators, 10kVA generators or 12kVA generators.

A 7kVA generator gives you roughly 5.6kW (5600 watts) of continuous power at a 0.8 power factor. Use that for what you leave running. A higher peak figure is only a short startup burst.
The welder generators in this range can. The petrol sets weld at up to 200 amps, and the diesel welder at 160 amps. Leads are sold separately. A plain petrol or diesel set is for tools, a pump and a shed, not for striking an arc.
At 240V single-phase, 7kVA generators supply around 29 amps. That covers a small site or a shed. The three-phase sets also have a three-phase outlet, so buy one of those only if your gear is already three phase.
The open-frame sets are. They are about 100kg and about 80 dB at 7 metres, which is site gear. The Hyundai inverter is the camping option in this range, at about 39kg and about 66 dB at 7 metres. For a fridge and lights only, a smaller inverter is the easier machine.
It depends on the load and the fuel. The inverter uses less on a light camp load, because the engine slows down. A diesel on tools or a welder will use more, and the mine-spec Yanmar carries a much larger tank for a long day.
A 7kVA generator is about 5.6kW continuous, and this range is built around site work, welders and mine spec. An 8kVA is about 6.4kW, which is the size people step up to for two air conditioners and a loaded van. Take the 7kVA when the job is the tools or the weld.
