Water Master GX160: Domestic Fire Defence That Earns Its Shed Space

Most of the year it sits in the shed. Then one hot afternoon it becomes the most important thing you own. The Water Master 1.5" GX160 Fire pump is the sensible choice for a house block or a small holding — 390 litres a minute at up to 74.5 metres of head, which is plenty to wet down a roof, a fence line or a stack of firewood. Because it is built on the Honda GX160 it also gets used for the ordinary jobs: shifting water between tanks, high pressure wash down, filling troughs. A single self-priming impeller keeps operation simple, and it takes a 1.5" inlet with two 1" outlets and one 1.5" outlet.

Water Master GX160 Honda Pump: What You Get

  • It covers the block without fuss — 390 L/min at up to 74.5 metres of head reaches a house roof or the far corner of a domestic property, which is the job most people actually need doing.
  • You will use it for more than fires — the same pump handles tank to tank transfer, trough filling and high pressure wash down, so it earns its keep between fire seasons instead of gathering dust.
  • The engine is the one everyone knows — a Honda GX160 means parts, servicing and advice are available from any small engine shop in the country, and it starts reliably after months standing idle.
  • Simple to operate under pressure — a single self-priming impeller with one 1.5" inlet and three outlets means fewer decisions and less to go wrong when you are in a hurry and not thinking clearly.
  • Light enough to move on your own — at 24 kg in a full roll frame, one person can lift it onto a ute tray or carry it to a dam without help.

Water Master GX160 Fire Fighting Pump FAQs

Is 390 L/min enough for bushfire defence?
For a domestic block, yes. It will run a 3/4" delivery hose at good pressure and reach a house roof. If you are protecting multiple buildings, want two hoses running at once, or have a longer run to cover, step up to the GX200 at 570 L/min. Both have the same 74.5 metres of head, so the difference is volume rather than reach.

Do I need to buy hoses separately?
Yes. You need a suction hose with a strainer and a delivery hose with a nozzle. The Water Master 1.5" Fire Hose Kit we stock suits this pump and covers both ends.

What do I do before the first start?
Fill the engine oil and add fuel per the Honda manual, since it ships dry. Submerge the strainer end of the suction hose fully, connect it to the 1.5" inlet, connect the delivery hose, then start. Do not run the pump dry — that is the fastest way to destroy the seal.

What safety points should I know?
Run it outdoors only. Petrol engines give off carbon monoxide and it is odourless. Let the engine cool before you refuel, keep dry grass away from the hot exhaust, and test run it every couple of months through summer so you are not discovering a problem on a day of total fire ban.
