Viper 20-60x85 Straight Scope: Maximum Reach, Pointed Where You Look

Big glass usually comes with a big awkward eyepiece angle. The Viper HD 20-60x85 Straight Spotter doesn't. You get the full 85mm objective and 60 power, in a body you aim exactly like a rifle — look along the tube, drop your eye down, and you're on it. That combination is the one serious shooters keep coming back to: enough magnification to read impacts and judge an animal at distance, in a layout that works lying behind a bipod without lifting your head off the stock. It's a proper full-size spotter at 2.17 kg and 44.5 cm, so give it a decent tripod and it'll show you things you had no business seeing.

Viper HD 20-60x85 Straight Spotter: What You Get

  • You can spot your own hits without breaking position — the straight body lines up with your eye while you're prone behind the rifle, so you stay on the stock and watch the impact instead of resetting between shots.
  • Sixty power that's actually worth having — the 85mm objective gathers enough light to feed the top of the zoom range, so wound right out you're resolving real detail rather than magnifying a soft image.
  • Getting on target is quick and obvious — a straight tube points where your eyes already point, which matters most on a big scope where the field of view at 60x is only 50 feet at a thousand yards.
  • Vehicle and bench work stop being a fight — the straight layout sits naturally at seated head height on a window mount or benchrest, so you can work a paddock or a range day without contorting yourself.
  • The weather doesn't get a vote — O-ring seals with argon purging keep it waterproof and fogproof, ArmorTek handles grit and scratches, and the built-in sunshade keeps glare and rain off that large front lens.

Viper 20-60x85 Straight Scope FAQs

Straight or angled in the 85mm?
Straight if you shoot prone and want to spot your own impacts, work from a vehicle window or bench, or simply find a straight tube more intuitive to point. Angled if you'll be seated glassing a basin for an hour, sharing the scope, or working uphill — it sits lower on the tripod and is easier on the neck over long sessions. Identical optics; it's purely about position.

What tripod does this need?
A solid one. At 2.17 kg on a lightweight photo tripod you'll be fighting wobble at 60x and you won't enjoy it. Look for something rated comfortably above the scope's weight with a fluid or pan head. Being the straight body, it sits higher than the angled version, so match tripod height to whether you'll be standing, seated or prone.

Is there anything to assemble?
No. Mount it to the tripod via the rotating collar, twist the eyecup down for glasses or up without, and always find your subject at 20x before winding up the magnification — at 60x you're looking through a very narrow window. Extend the sunshade in bright conditions to cut glare.

What does the VIP warranty actually cover?
Vortex will repair or replace the scope if it's damaged or defective, no matter how it happened or whose fault it was. No warranty card, no receipt to keep, and it transfers if you sell it on. It doesn't cover loss, theft, misuse or deliberate damage, and return postage to the service centre is on you.
