Straight if you glass from a vehicle window, shoot prone and want to spot your own hits, or scan mostly flat country. It's faster to point and more intuitive if you've never used a spotter before. Angled suits long seated sessions, sharing the scope around, and glassing uphill, and it lets a shorter tripod do the job. The optics are identical either way — it's purely about how you'll use it.

Do I need a tripod, and what sort?
Yes, you'll want one — at 15–45x, handheld isn't realistic. The straight body sits higher than the angled version, so match the tripod height to how you'll use it: full height if you're standing, a shorter one for seated or window-mount work. At 1.67 kg it doesn't need anything heavy, just a decent pan or fluid head.

Is there anything to assemble or set up?
Nothing to build.
