Is 12x too much magnification to hold steady?
It's the honest trade-off with 12x. Handheld you'll see some shake, and more of it as the years go on — that's just physics and biology, not a fault in the binos. Bracing against a fencepost, a ute bonnet or your knees sorts most of it. If you're glassing for long stretches, put them on a tripod using the adapter thread. If you'd rather never think about it, the 10x50 in this same range is the steadier hold.

Can I mount them on a tripod?
Yes. They're tripod adaptable — you'll need a tripod adapter, which isn't included. Worth it if you spend a lot of time glassing one basin, and it's also how you get the most out of the 12x on a still morning.

What does the VIP warranty actually cover?
Vortex will repair or replace the product if it's damaged or defective, regardless of how it happened or whose fault it was. There's no warranty card to fill in and no receipt to hang on to, and it transfers if you sell them on. It doesn't cover loss, theft, misuse or deliberate damage. Return postage to the service centre is on you.

Do I need to assemble or set anything up?
Nothing to assemble. Two things worth doing once, properly: adjust the eyecups (twist down if you wear glasses, up if you don't), then set the diopter on the right eyepiece to suit the difference between your eyes and lock it. Five minutes at the kitchen table and you won't touch it again.
