The Viper Vortex Gen II 2-10x32 FFP is the answer for anyone who does both in the same day. Wind it back to 2x and you've got 58 feet of view at a hundred yards for close, fast work in thick country. Wind it up to 10x and you're taking a considered shot across a paddock. First focal plane means the reticle scales with the image, so your holdover marks mean the same thing at 3x as they do at 10x — no mental arithmetic, no dialling back to a magic magnification before you can trust the hashmarks.

• Your holdovers mean the same thing at every magnification — the first focal plane reticle scales with the zoomed image so subtensions stay constant, which means you can hold and range at 4x or 9x without first winding to a set power and doing sums under pressure.
• One scope covers thick scrub and open country — a genuine 2x to 10x range gives you 58.3 feet of view at 100 yards wound out for close work, then closes to 11.7 feet for a deliberate long shot, so you're not swapping optics between paddocks.
• You can still see the crosshair when the light goes — the illuminated glass-etched reticle runs ten intensity levels with an off position between each one, so you can set it just bright enough for dusk without blooming out your night vision or fumbling past settings.
• The turrets go back to zero without counting — the RZR zero stop means you can dial elevation for a long shot and spin straight back down to your zero by feel, so there's no risk of returning a full rotation out and wondering why you're missing.

MOA or MRAD — which should I choose?
Whichever you already think in. They're just two units for the same thing, like inches and centimetres. MOA clicks are finer at a quarter-minute each, which some shooters prefer for precise zeroing, and MOA is more common in Australian hunting circles. MRAD works in tens, so the mental maths is easier once you're used to it, and it's the standard in tactical and long-range competition. The one rule worth following: match your scope to your ballistic app, your data book and anyone who spots for you. Mixing units is how good shooters miss.

What does first focal plane actually get me?
The reticle sits ahead of the magnification lens, so it grows and shrinks with the image. That means the spacing between hashmarks always represents the same angle, whatever power you're on. With a second focal plane scope the subtensions are only correct at one magnification, usually maximum, so any holdover taken at another power needs converting. FFP removes that entirely — useful on a 2-10x where you'll genuinely use the whole range.

What do I need to mount it, and how do I set it up?
It's a 30mm tube, so you'll need 30mm rings or a 30mm one-piece mount — the 1 inch cantilever mount we stock will not fit this scope. Set eye relief by shouldering the rifle until the picture is full and clear with no dark ring, level the reticle, then torque the ring caps gradually in a criss-cross pattern to the values in the manual. Set your zero, then set the RZR zero stop so you can always dial back down by feel. Confirm the rifle is unloaded before you mount anything.

What does the VIP warranty actually cover?
Vortex will repair or replace the scope if it's damaged or defective, no matter how it happened or whose fault it was. No warranty card, no receipt to keep, and it transfers if you sell it on. It doesn't cover loss, theft, misuse or deliberate damage, and return postage to the service centre is on you.
