DJI Matrice 400 FAQs
1. What makes the Matrice 400 different from the 200 series?
Scale. It flies up to 59 minutes against 38, carries 6 kg of payload against barely more than a camera, and transmits up to 40 km (FCC) against 8 km. Maximum take-off weight is 15.8 kg at an aircraft weight of 9.74 kg.
2. How big is it to transport?
980 × 760 × 480 mm unfolded, folding to 490 × 490 × 480 mm. It folds to roughly a half-metre cube, so it travels in a vehicle but it isn't a backpack aircraft.
3. What transmission system does it use?
DJI O4 Enterprise Enhanced with airborne relay video transmission, giving up to 40 km (FCC) or 20 km (CE/SRRC/MIC). Australia follows the lower limits, so plan around the CE figure rather than the headline one.
4. Do I need a licence to fly this commercially?
Almost certainly. CASA's sub-2kg excluded category lets you fly commercially without a licence, and this aircraft is well above that, so commercial work generally requires a Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) and operation under a Remote Operator's Certificate (ReOC). There is a separate landholder exclusion for flying over your own land without accepting payment, which may apply to some operators. Registration and accreditation apply either way. Check your situation at casa.gov.au before you order, or ring us on 1300 902 361.
